BRODHEAD - Brodhead Middle School students were able to enjoy some football history Tuesday when they visited Lambeau Field in Green Bay.

The students took first place in the National Football Leagues Play 60 challenge in March. The goal of the program was to get students to exercise for at least one hour a day. Brodhead students logged more than 5,400 hours of activity between Feb. 8 and March 8.

As a prize for their hard work, they were able to visit Lambeau Field, the Packers' Hall of Fame, the pro shop and Curley's game area. They also got to shake hands and get autographs from Green Bay Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk.

The Packers sent buses to Brodhead to bring the students to Green Bay.

Although she's a big Packers fan, sixth-grade student Amber Pickle had never visited the stadium before. She said she was excited to meet Hawk and shake his hand.

"I got his autograph," she said with a big smile.

Ryan Walenton, who is also in the sixth grade, has visited Lambeau Field before, but this was the first time he was able to tour the entire stadium. He was able to do the "Lambeau Leap," he said.

Whether they were new to Lambeau or returning visitors, students were impressed with the surroundings.

"It was neat to see how other people reacted," eighth-grader Mallory McGinty said.

Derek Turner, eighth grade, said he felt like one of the Packers as he walked down the tunnel to the field.

Jeremiah Young, who teaches gym class at the middle school, took the lead in the school's efforts to get the students to exercise more and win the trip to Green Bay.
