MONROE - A wicked thunderstorm whipped through the area Wednesday night, knocking out power, flooding roads, and causing fires, gas leaks and accidents.

Wisconsin 69 north of Monroe was closed due to an injury accident and downed power lines on the road and will remain closed through about noon today, according to the Green County Sheriff's Department. A detour takes traffic around the stretch from Cold Springs Road to Washington Road in Monticello.

A possible tornado was sighted touching down near Faith Engineering between Monti-cello and Monroe along Wis. 69, and emergency crews reported tornado damage. The National Weather Service warned of wind gusts of up to 80 mph in the storm.

The Green County Sheriff's Department was "inundated with calls of damage and trees down," according to a post to the department's Facebook page Wednesday evening.
