WASHINGTON, D.C. - Ten area school districts will receive funding from the federal economic stimulus, Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., announced Wednesday.
In Wisconsin, 371 school districts will receive funds from Title I grants. The grants can be used by school districts for a variety of purposes, including expanding early childhood opportunities for eligible students, implementing new programs to improve literacy and math skills among low-income students, expanding learning time for students outside of the traditional school day, and developing professional development programs to help train teachers who work with students with special needs.
"The stimulus funding released to Wisconsin (Wednesday) will address short-term needs in our schools, while making long-term investments in improving our education system, which has been greatly burdened by the economic downtown," Feingold said.
More than $1 billion in stimulus funds will be distributed to Wisconsin school districts in multiple phases, Feingold said.
Here's what local school districts will be receiving in Title I grants:
Albany: $21,236
Argyle: $34,888
Black Hawk: $31,096
Brodhead: $100,114
Darlington: $82,670
Juda: $23,629
Monroe: $186,577
Monticello: $29,549
New Glarus: $47,023
Pecatonica: $40,197
