Stephenson Co. has second fatal crash in as many days

FREEPORT — The Stephenson County Sheriff’s Department announced its second fatal crash in as many days this past week. 

One day after a crash on US 20 West killed a driver west of Freeport near Rink Road, a motorcyclist lost their life on June 27 less than four miles away. At approximately 7:09 p.m. on June 27, the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a motorcycle rollover accident in the area of West Stephenson Street and Van Brocklin Road. 

Upon arrival, deputies located an overturned motorcycle approximately 1/2 mile west of Van Brocklin Road. The driver was transported to Freeport Memorial Hospital by ambulance, where they were pronounced deceased. 

The name is being withheld at this time pending family notification. The cause of the crash is unknown and still under investigation. 

The Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Illinois State Police, Freeport Rural Fire and Ambulance, and Star Ambulance.
