MONROE - Green and Lafayette counties are part of a five-county group that will receive almost $200,000 in a transportation to jobs grant, Gov. Jim Doyle announced Friday.
"The grant will help low-income workers throughout the state overcome transportation barriers to employment," Doyle said.
Southwest Community Action Program, which includes Green, Lafayette, Grant, Iowa and Richland counties, will receive $196,873 to help pay for transportation costs. Vanpools, shuttle service, child care transportation and a guaranteed ride home program are included in the program.
The program is administered by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) and the Wis. Department of Transportation.
"Access to safe, reliable transportation is critical for hard-working low-income families," DWD Secretary Robert Gassman said. "These grants are making a world of difference for families who need that extra assistance to gain employment, remain employed and pursue opportunities for a better job."
