MONROE - Limited spots remain for a free Spay/Neuter Day event co-sponsored by the Green County Humane Society and Everyone Needs a Home, South Wayne.
The organizations have contracted with the Dane County Humane Society's mobile spay/neuter unit to provide alteration surgeries for up to 30 cats on Thursday, Oct. 29. The surgeries will be provided free for those with a financial need.
Residents of Green and Lafayette counties are eligible. Anyone interested in reserving a spot should call Peggy Miller Sheffer at (608) 439-1021.
There is a limit of two cats per household. Cats must be in good health and free of respiratory illness. Cats must be tame enough to be handled and must be transported in a pet carrier.
Monroe Auto Sales, 101 W. Eighth St., is donating its facility for the free Spay/Neuter Day. Cats should be dropped off in the morning and DCHS veterinary staff will perform the surgeries. After a short recovery period, cats will be released to their owners that afternoon.
GCHS also offers a separate Spay/Neuter Assistance Program for Green County residents with a financial need. Pet owners can usea a voucher at their own vet, who are reimbursed the amount of the SNAP voucher by GCHS.
