DARLINGTON - One person was killed in a one-vehicle crash at about 11:45 p.m. Thursday in Darlington township.
According to the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department, Martin A. Thorsen, 68, Shullsburg, was driving his 1997 Pontiac Firebird convertible southwest on County E when he left the roadway on the right side and entered a ditch.
Thorsen continued through the ditchline until striking a culvert. The car went airborne and landed on its roof on Mineral Road.
Thorsen was partially ejected and died from crash-related injuries at the scene, where he was pronounced dead by coroner Virginia Douglas.
Sheriff's deputies report Thorsen did not appear to be wearing a seat belt. Alcohol is not considered a contributing factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department and coroner's office.
Rural Medical Ambulance, the Darlington Fire Department and Lafayette County Sheriff's deputies responded to the accident.
The traffic fatality was the first in Lafayette County this year.
