BELMONT TOWNSHIP - Derek V. Riemenapp, 23, Shullsburg died after he went missing while swimming at about 7:15 p.m. Sunday at the Lake Joy Campground in Belmont township, according to Lafayette County Sheriff Scott Pedley.
Riemenapp was at the campground with family and friends at the time of his death.
Pedley said he anticipates the name of the man would be released at about 10 a.m. today.
According to Pedley, the Sheriff's Department received a report at about 7:15 that Riemenapp was last seen swimming in a designated area at Lake Joy.
The Sheriff's Department boat, equipped with water rescue and dragging equipment was deployed to the lake. The Grant County Dive Team also responded to the lake to assist.
Riemenapp's body was located at about 8:40 p.m. in approximately 7 feet of water. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Lafayette County Coroner Virginia Douglas. An autopsy was scheduled for today in Madison.
Pedley said this is the third drowning in the lake in the 25 years.
The Belmont Fire Department, Belmont Ambulance and the Belmont Police Department assisted at the scene.
