MONROE - People who want information about traffic accidents, traffic arrests and other items related to law enforcement can now go the Green County Sheriff's Web site for answers.
Green County Sheriff Randy Roderick said the department developed its first Web site in 1999. The new site is updated and is more "efficient and user friendly," he said.
The new site, found at www.greensheriff.com, provides access to news releases, which gives visitors the daily sheriff's department log; fees for such things as accidents reports; civil process, which includes foreclosure sales times, dates and locations; hunter safety and all-terrain vehicle safety courses; names of all department employees; and resource links to county departments and information about scams.
Also included on the site are jail visitation hours and rules for visiting prisoners.
Roderick hopes the site will answer people's questions and decrease the amount of phone traffic at the sheriff's department.
The site also allows people to enter their wireless phone numbers into the county's reverse 9-1-1 data bank. By entering their numbers into the system, cellular phone users can be informed of emergencies in the county that may affect them.
"By taking advantage of technology, the department is giving the public another avenue to contact us," Roderick said.
The Monroe Times publishes daily police logs from the Green County Sheriff's Department, the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department, and the Monroe, Brodhead, and New Glarus police departments.
