Sheriff seeks info on hit-&-run

MONTICELLO — Authorities are investigating a hit-and-run accident where a local woman needed to be airlifted to a Madison hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to Green County Sheriff Cody Kanable, at 7:06 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, the Sheriff’s Office Communication Center received a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle crash with injuries in the W6400 block of County Hwy C, in the Town of Washington. The crash location was approximately four miles west of the Village of Monticello. Deputies immediately responded to the scene along with Monticello Fire Department, Green County EMS and New Glarus Fire Department.

“Preliminary investigation determined a 58 year old female of Argyle was stopped in the westbound lane of traffic with hazard lights activated,” Kanable said. “The female was outside of the vehicle and was in the process of securing a loose dog that was found alongside the roadway. As the female was on the driver side of her vehicle, a silver colored eastbound vehicle collided with her.”

The eastbound silver vehicle fled the scene of the crash. The Argyle woman sustained life-threatening injuries and was subsequently flown from the scene by UW Med Flight medical helicopter.

Green County Sheriff’s Detectives assisted at the scene and the crash remains under investigation, Kanable said.

“Detectives are reviewing and processing physical and digital evidence collected at the scene. It is known that the silver vehicle sustained damage as a result of the collision,” Kanable said. “I encourage any individuals with information about this incident to contact Green County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number at 608-328-9400 or Green County Crimestoppers online at https://greencountycrimestoppers.com/, by phone at 1-800-I-C-CRIME or through the P3 Tips Mobile App.
