Sheriff, clerk, coroner unopposed

MONROE - Three Green County candidates are running unopposed in Tuesday's election.

Jeff Skatrud is running for sheriff; incumbent Carol Thompson is running for clerk of courts; and Kris Hasse is running for coroner.

Skatrud, who is Green County Sheriff Chief Deputy, joined the Green County Sheriff's Department in 1981 as a patrol deputy, after starting his career as a Shullsburg police officer in 1979. In his 28 years with the Green County department, Skatrud has also been a patrol sergeant, drug detective, lieutenant and the county's first DARE officer.

Skatrud lives in rural Brodhead with his wife Lynn, and has two adult sons, Josh and Kevin.

Green County Sheriff Randy Roderick announced in April that he wouldn't seek another term.

Thompson, who has been clerk of courts since 2000, has worked in Green County's judicial system since 1986.

As clerk, Thompson's duties include managing the office and completing yearly reports to the state and the county.

Thompson and her husband, Art, live in New Glarus.

She is a graduate of Blanchardville High School and attended vocational classes and training through the Clerk of Courts Association, the Green Bay University of Wisconsin Extension and Madison Area Technical College.

Hasse has worked in the coroner's office for 13 years, the last 11 as chief deputy coroner.

She lives in Monroe with her husband, Todd, and sons Mitchel and Trevor.

She is a Monroe High school graduate and also attended Blackhawk Technical College and Madison Area Technical School.

Green County Coroner Jan Perry decided not to seek another term.
