MONROE — The Monroe Police Department put out a press release last week informing area residents of the release of a sex offender into the city scheduled for Dec. 24.
Donald T. Pitman, 25, is a 5-foot-5 white male, approximately 170 pounds with gray hair and hazel eyes.
Pitman has served his sentence and will be under direct supervision with electronic monitoring. He must be registered with the Sex Offender Registry. He will be living at 1317 17th Street in Monroe.
Pitman has faced felony charges for multiple incidents stemming back to 2018, including for child pornography and exposing a child to harmful materials. According to court documents, Pitman bribed a 16-year-old female to undress, then Pitman and another offender assaulted the victim. Pitman also took nude photos and videos of the victim.
“Information pursuant to Wisconsin State Statute 301.46 which authorizes law enforcement agencies to inform the public of a sex offender’s release when: in the discretion of the agency, the release of the information will enhance public safety, awareness and protection. The individual who appears in this notification has been convicted of a sex offense. Further, his/her criminal history places him/her in a classification level which reflects the potential to re-offend,” said Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley in the press release. “This sex offender has served the sentence imposed on him by the courts.”
Kelley iterated that Pitman is not wanted by the police at this time.
“This notice is not intended to increase fear, rather, it is our belief that an informed public is a safer public,” Kelley said. “Sex offenders have always lived in our communities, but it was not until Act 440 was enacted that law enforcement is able to share this information with the community. “
Citizen abuse of the information to threaten, harass or intimidate Pitman or other registered sex offenders is illegal and will not be tolerated, Kelley added.
Pitman will be returned to the community on/about Dec. 24, 2024, after completing his sentence.
