During the week of June 20, Rock Road Companies continued with concrete pavement removal on 9th Street from 15th Avenue to the mid-1600 block of 9th Street. Rock Road also completed the excavation of the subsoil of the street from 18th Avenue to 16th Avenue, and on 16th Avenue 100 feet north and south of 9th Street. After the subsoil excavation, they placed 6 inches to 12 inches of breaker run, depending on soil conditions, and an initial layer of the 13 inches of gravel base course. Rock Road continued with the installation of 12-inch concrete storm sewer laterals on 9th Street between 12th Avenue and 13th Avenue. They installed about 100 feet of storm sewer. The bridge contractor, Edward Kraemer & Sons, continued with the construction of the south concrete bridge abutment for the new bridge foundation. Voegeli Landscaping started with the construction of the North retaining wall from the west side of the bridge to about 9th Avenue. They have completed 225 feet of retaining wall varying from 5 feet in height to 12 feet in height on the north side of 8th Street.

Next week, Rock Road Companies will continue with storm sewer lateral installation between 13th Avenue and 19th Avenue. They will also continue with concrete pavement removal from 15th Avenue to 14th Avenue and from 18th Avenue to 20th Avenue. After the concrete is removed, the grading crew will go back and continue with the placement of the street base from 13th Avenue to 16th Avenue and from 18th Avenue to 20th Avenue. Rock Road plans to have the remaining storm sewer installed, the street cut, and initial road base completed by the end of the week. The bridge contractor, Edward Kraemer & Sons, will continue with construction of the concrete bridge abutments, and prepare for the delivery of the new bridge sections. Voegeli Landscaping will continue working on retaining wall installation on the North side of 8th Street adjacent to the new bridge location and work towards 10th Avenue. The electrical contractor, Westphal and Company Inc., will start installing the electrical conduit for the street lighting and traffic signals.

All intersections will remain open for cross traffic the majority of the time, except during the installation of utilities through the intersection. The intersections will be completely barricaded when this is happening. Otherwise the barricades will be offset to allow for cross traffic.
