LANCASTER — State Senator Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) announced Aug. 23 that he has been endorsed by nine major agricultural organizations.
The endorsements were announced at a gathering of farmers and supporters at Vesperman Farms in Lancaster.
“I have worked hard to be a voice for farmers. I understand their challenges and opportunities because I have walked miles in their shoes,” Marklein said. “I know that they want us to listen to their concerns and solutions — and support their local efforts to keep farming a robust industry in Wisconsin. I am proud to work on their behalf.”
The Volunteers for Agriculture / Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, Dairy Business Association, Wisconsin Cattlemen’s Association, Wisconsin Pork Association, Wisconsin Potato & Vegetable Growers Association, Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association, Wisconsin Dairy Alliance, Venture Dairy Coop and the Wisconsin Corn Growers Association declared their support early in the campaign cycle to demonstrate their strong support for his re-election to the state Senate to represent the 17th Senate District.
“The endorsements I received this week demonstrate the strong, overwhelming support from agriculture for my re-election,” Marklein said. “I appreciate their early endorsements and will continue to connect with farmers and the ag community as I work to earn their votes.”
Wisconsin Farm Bureau’s Governmental Relations Innovation and Engagement Strategist Karen Gefvert said the Farm Bureau “appreciates Senator Marklein’s leadership and support of agriculture. He has been a steadfast champion for investments in our rural communities. His support for rural broadband expansion, farmer-led water quality and conservation projects, enhancing agriculture’s access to world class researchers within the University as well as his pivotal role in the creation of the Dairy Innovation Hub have been key to reinvest in Wisconsin’s farmers. For these reasons and many more, the Volunteers for Agriculture proudly endorse him for his reelection to the Wisconsin State Senate’s 17th District,” said.
“The Dairy Business Association (DBA) proudly endorses Senator Marklein for reelection. He has served as a champion for dairy and agriculture throughout his tenure, previously as chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee and in his current post as co-chair of the Joint Finance Committee,” DBA President Amy Penterman said. “An example of Senator Marklein’s keen understanding of dairy’s critical importance was his leadership in the creation of the Dairy Innovation Hub. This program, on three University of Wisconsin campuses, provides world-class research in dairy production, water and land conservation, animal health and human nutrition. Senator Marklein represents one of the most dairy-heavy districts in Wisconsin. Our members, particularly in his 17th Senate District, know that he shares their values and is committed to growing and sustaining a vibrant and resilient dairy community in our state.”
“Senator Marklein is a relentless and unapologetic champion for farmers in Wisconsin. The 17th Senate District is fortunate to be represented by Senator Marklein. He understands that Wisconsin farmers feed the world and he is not afraid to stand up for farms of all sizes. Wisconsin Dairy Alliance proudly endorses Senator Marklein for reelection and we look forward to working with him to enact reforms to uphold Wisconsin as the Dairy State.”
