MONROE - The second installment of real estate taxes is due by July 31, according to Sherri Hawkins, Green County treasurer.
Checks should be made payable to the Green County treasurer. The treasurer's office is located in the courthouse, first floor, room No. 6. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Payments may be mailed to Green County treasurer, 1016 16th Ave., Monroe, WI 53566. To receive a receipt, enclose a self-addressed stamped envelop.
For convenience, an after-hours drop box is located in the east door of the courthouse.
To pay by credit card or by e-check, visit the county website at www.co.green.wi.gov, and under "quick links," click on "pay taxes online." There is an additional fee for the credit card and e-check service.
Belleville Community Bank, a Branch of Middleton Community Bank; Bank of New Glarus, Sugar River Bank in Belleville, Brodhead, Juda and Monroe; and Union Bank and Trust Company, New Glarus, will be accepting postponed real estate tax payments during regular banking hours.
If taxes are not paid by the due date, they become subject to August interest and a 10.5 percent penalty. The interest and penalty will continue to increase each month at the rate of 1.5 percent until the balance is paid in full.
