MONROE - The opening reception of the second juried art exhibit and fundraiser for the Lower Sugar River Watershed Association, titled "Seasons of the Sugar River - back roads and backwaters," will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Monroe Arts Center, 1315 11th St.
The Monroe Arts Center will feature the exhibit from Oct. 31 through Nov. 28.
The public is invited to the opening reception to meet artists. Food from local restaurants, including Baumgartner's Cheese Store and Tavern and Pancho and Lefty's Outlaw Grill, will be available.
A gallery talk will be at 5:30 p.m. in the Frehner Gallery. A portion of the proceeds from art sales will be donated to support the work of LSRWA, a local nonprofit conservation organization based in Brodhead, dedicated to the care of water resources and to raising public awareness of the importance of clean water.
More than two dozen artists submitted more than 50 pieces in this season's competition. This year's theme showcases scenes from the hidden, out-of-the-way places in the watershed - from back road vistas to life found on the forest floor - as depicted in paintings, drawings, fiber-art, photography, ceramics, wood and jewelry.
The opening event will include a poster and film exhibit in Wesley Hall showcasing the work of LSRWA Citizen Science volunteers. Volunteers and students who are mapping and measuring ecosystem health and water quality throughout the watershed and undertaking projects to restore their local streams will be on hand.
For more information about the show, contact the Monroe Arts Center at info@monroeartscenter.com or 608-325-5700 or contact LSRWA at info@lsrwa.org.
