NEW GLARUS - The New Glarus village board plans to advertise for a new police chief after interviewing one candidate Tuesday.
The board interviewed New Glarus Police officer Szvon Conway Tuesday.
New Glarus Police officer Jeff Sturdevant, who became acting chief Aug. 1, withdrew as a candidate for the police chief position. Sturdevant declined to say why he decided not to seek the position.
Steve Allbaugh retired from the department July 30 after 10 years as chief.
Nicholas Owen, village administrator, said the board decided it needed more than one candidate for the police chief position.
It will advertise for candidates until Sept. 22, and then interview people who apply for the job.
Owen said the board would like to have someone in place as soon as possible, but when a new chief is named will depend on how many people apply for the job.
