SOUTH WAYNE - One of the first Victorian homes built in 1901 by a member of the prominent Chapman family is getting a new outlook on life.

After moving back to Wisconsin from St. Louis in 2001, Sameena Quinn and her husband, Tim, purchased the house on the hill with its gorgeous views of South Wayne and the surrounding area. They rented the house for a while until Tim encouraged Sameena to turn it into a scrapbooking retreat.

"I enjoy scrapbooking and crafting, and it has the great open layout set up for it. It is the perfect house," Sameena said. "He told me to go for it, which I would have never done on my own."

The house has four bedrooms, each with two twin beds, two full bathrooms and enough space to get into the crafty frame of mind. A large room can be set up with 6-foot tables that form eight crafting stations. Each station is equipped with a cup holder, power strip and a comfy chair. There is plenty of natural night during the day and floor lamps at each table for late night crafting. All anyone needs to bring is the crafting supplies.

Sameena has enjoyed the experience.

"It has been super fun. I have met a lot of great people. My husband grew up around here, so we knew a lot of people already. But working with the townspeople and the village board has been really great," she said.

She noted the opportunities for friends or families to enjoy the views, use the free WiFi or wander around South Wayne and patronize area restaurants and bars.

The house has quite a bit of its original charm with built-in cabinets between the kitchen and the dining room and the laundry shoot in the upstairs bathroom. The original owner created a water feature that Sameena has dreams to get back up and running someday. Along with her craftwork, she credits her husband and his twin brother's handiwork to other parts of the house, including the remodeled bathrooms and the open kitchen layout.

The house doesn't have to be used for scrapbooking or crafts. Its fully stocked kitchen, with all the dishes and utensils one might need, is suitable for families that might need extra space while getting together for the holidays or for those who wish to host a large party.

The entire house can be rented out at $50 for a single event.

For a weekend, Sameena offers the house for a minimum of two nights and four people, at a cost of $40 per person per night. If a party has seven people, an eighth person is free.
