VILLAGE OF NEW GLARUS - Green County sheriff's deputies were dispatched at 7:53 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10 to investigate a van vs. school bus crash that occurred on Wisconsin 69 at 14th Avenue.

A vehicle turned north onto Wis. 69 from 14th Avenue, pulling out in front of a New Glarus School District bus that was traveling south on Wis. 69. The bus was driven by Todd A. Duerst, 55, New Glarus.

Duerst braked and swerved to miss the vehicle. The bus was rear-ended by a southbound van, driven by Vonnie M. Flannery, 62, Monroe.

The vehicle that pulled out in front of the school bus was not hit and continued north on Wis. 69.

Duerst reported he and the 26 passengers/students on the bus were not injured in the crash.

The bus received only minor damage and was driven from the scene.

Flannery was uninjured. Flannery's vehicle received severe damage and was towed from the scene. Flannery will be cited for inattentive driving, police said.

The crash remains under investigation. The non-contact vehicle that failed-to-yield the right-of-way is described as a gray, older model Chevy Tahoe or GMC Yukon-type SUV.
