Engineering Supervisor, City of Monroe

During the week of April 11, Dane County Contracting installed 600 feet of water main along 9th Street and 12th Avenue to about 14th Avenue. Rock Road Companies completed the milling of the asphaltic surface along the entire corridor of 8th and 9th Street from Wisconsin 69 to 20th Avenue. These asphalt millings will be recycled and used in future asphalt mixes from their plant. On 8th Street from Wisconsin 69 to 10th Avenue, Rock Road removed all of the concrete pavement, sidewalks, and driveways in preparation for the excavation for gravel base installation. The tree crews were also near completion with their work.

Next week, Dane County Contracting will continue with the water main installation along 9th Street from the mid-1300 block to 16th Avenue. By midweek, a second crew from Dane County Contracting will begin with sanitary sewer installation along 9th Street beginning at 11th Avenue (west of the Senior Center.) They will install sanitary sewer service up to the property line (back of sidewalk) and reconnect water services up to the terrace as they work down the street.

Next week, Rock Road Companies will start with storm sewer installation along 8th Street from Wisconsin 69 to 10th Avenue. After the new storm sewer is installed, they will excavate the subsoil of the street from the new street base. This area should take about two weeks before they move onto the next section of storm sewer installation.

All intersections will remain open for cross traffic the majority of the time, except when they have to install utilities through the intersection. The intersection will be completely barricaded when this is happening as well as partial closure at the prior intersection. Otherwise the barricades will be offset to allow the cross traffic.

The city will also be reducing the speed limit in Wisconsin 69 to 25 mph. This reduction in speed 25 mph. This reduction in speed will be posted from 16th Street to 6th Street (from the humane society to Pizza Hut).
