Rural hit-and-run victim dies from injuries

MONROE — Investigators are providing few new details into the investigation of an apparent hit-and-run crash auto crash that killed a 58-year-old Argyle woman late last month

Crucially, the woman’s name will not be released, as” she is the victim of a crime,” said Green County Sheriff Cody Kanable on Monday.

But his department is working closely with state department of investigation officers to try to locate the driver of that car that hit woman, just after 7 p.m. Feb. 20, in the W6400 block of County Highway C in the Town of Washington.

The crash site is about four miles west of the Village of Monticello. The victim was airlifted from the scene by helicopter in attempt to save her life, according to reports. She had stopped her vehicle in the westbound lane with her hazard lights flashing and activated when a silver car traveling eastbound struck her, fatally, and then continued without stopping. She may have been looking for a small dog, officials said.

Police have little, at least publicly, to go on but are actively searching for a “silver-colored car with damage” said Kanable, who urged those with information to come forward by calling the sheriff’s office or provide anonymous tips through Green County Crime Stoppers.

Meanwhile, Kanable said his department is waiting for some potentially vital evidence to come back from the state crime lab that may help in the investigation.

“As the investigation has advanced, Green County Detectives have been assisted by the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Rock County Sheriff’s Office and Green County Coroner’s Office,” said Kanable, in a statement.  Investigators continue to review and analyze physical and digital evidence.   Investigative developments and evidence has led the investigative team to believe the public can provide further assistance.
