Rufer to teach fire training

MINERAL POINT - Alan Rufer, command officer and the director of training for the City of Monroe Fire Department, will be teaching a Ten-23 class on Saturday, March 31.

Ten-23 is an intermediate level class for firefighters and company officers designed to teach the 10 key things a company officer must accomplish within the first two minutes of arriving on-scene at a working fire with a crew of three, and how to overcome short-handed crews and implement offensive strategies without compromising scene safety.

Rufer began his fire service career in 1988 and has a master of business administration with an emphasis in organizational development. He is a member of the International Society of Fire Service Instructors and has been teaching in the fire service for more than 15 years. He is a certified fire officer, fire instructor II, incident safety officer, fire inspector, motor pump operator and firefighter II. An adjunct instructor for Blackhawk Technical College, Rufer specializes in fire certification courses, fire ground operations, leadership, traffic safety and volunteer recruitment and retention. He is also the owner of Xtreme FD.
