Road closes after alleged OWI driver crashes into pole
News Brief with BKG

MONROE — A county road south of Albany was partially closed six hours Tuesday night after an alleged drunken driver crashed into an Alliant Energy utility pole.

County F at Decatur Albany Road was reopened as of Wednesday morning, according to the Green County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash was reported at about 5 p.m. Tuesday in the N4900 block of County F, Town of Decatur. Deputies, Albany EMS and the Albany Fire Department responded.

Investigation by deputies found that Lynn M. Lowe, 58, Orangeville, was northbound when she lost control while negotiating a curve in the road. Her vehicle went into the ditch, plowed through a fence and hit a utility pole before coming to rest.

Lowe was arrested on a first-offense charge of operating while intoxicated and cited for failure to maintain control of a vehicle, then released pending court. She was taken by ambulance to the Monroe Clinic ER for treatment of injuries she sustained in the crash. Her airbags deployed, and the severely damaged vehicle was towed from the scene.

Due to “significant damage” to the power pole, the road was closed to one lane for about six hours while Alliant Energy completed repairs, according to the sheriff’s office.

A new pole was being installed Wednesday morning.
