MONROE - Main Street Monroe Concerts on the Square is teaming up with Colony Brands for their next big show at 6:30 p.m. Friday with Chicago band The Brat Pack.
Although the musical entertainment for the entire season is underwritten by Colony Brands, this show is in celebration of the company's 90th year in Monroe, and everyone is invited to join in the fun.
There will be crazy costumes, zany antics, suave dance moves and the best of the 1980s and beyond when The Brat Pack takes the stage. Dress up like someone during the '80s (big hair, tight-rolled jeans, topsiders, aerobic wear, '80s-era concert T, etc.) and if our spotters find you in the crowd you might win a prize.
Colony Brands is providing giveaways and door prizes - with at least 90 reasons this night is not to be missed. The evening's surprise intermission entertainment - sure to be a crowd-pleaser - will be sponsored by the John and Katie Baumann Inspiration Project.
The featured non-profit for this show is the Monroe Clinic Hospice Foundation. The organization is raising funds to build a hospice home on land donated by Green County in a scenic wooded area near Pleasant View Nursing Home. The facility will enable elderly spouses and working family members to be nearby as qualified staff members see to the physical and emotional needs of the residents, in a supportive caring environment that provides privacy and comfort for family members and their loved ones.
The slate of other non-profit organizations recognized this concert season includes Green Haven Family Advocates, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Pleasant View Foundation, Green County EMS, and Green County Historical Society. All of the featured six will be highlighted at the Aug. 12 concert when Main Street Monroe presents a "sunset celebration" night with vendor booths and street entertainers added to the mix on the inner ring of the south side of the downtown Square.
Food stands are available during Concerts on the Square, with pizza, Chicago-style hot dogs, local brews and seasonal brewed favorites, soda and water. New this year is a wine bar, with proceeds benefiting Habitat for Humanity. Minhas Craft Brewery is providing a mini bar with cans of Huber Premium, Shorebreak IPA, Boxer and Boxer Light.
Sign up all summer at Heartland Graphics for the "Best Seat in the House" contest, to win premium seating plus a dining, beverage and swag package. Winners are drawn before each show.
In case of rain, the event moves to SLICE. For the latest updates, follow "Downtown Monroe Events and News" on Facebook or visit the web site mainstreetmonroe.org.
Upcoming concert dates are July 8 (Thirsty Jones), July 28 (Moonlight Jazz Orchestra), Aug. 12 (Free Fallin') and Aug. 25 (Birddog Blues Band and The Family Business).
A significant portion of the Main Street budget is derived from sponsors. Volunteers also are needed. Contact Main Street Monroe director Jordan Nordby at 608-328-4023 or monroemainstreet@tds.net.
