DARLINGTON - Lafayette County saw an increase in population in the most recent census, causing the county to consider a redistricting plan.
"There has been quite a bit of change in the county," said Lafayette County Clerk Linda Bawden. "All but three (districts) will have change."
Bawden could not speak to specifics of the county's redistricting plan because they are still in the planning stages.
But she said that Lafayette County is currently made up of 16 districts, and the overall population saw an increase of 4.3 percent.
The target population for each district is 1,052, and some of districts are either over or under the target by 10 percent, according to officials. Districts 10, 12 and 13 have the most deviation.
The proposed plan at this point includes moving some parts of District 13 to District 14 and moving some areas of District 3 and District 4 to District 12.
Maps would be changed in the system and printed out to be reviewed at the next committee meeting, and then will go to each township for approval.
