Red Cracker Fest on tap for weekend

SOUTH WAYNE - The 16th annual Red Cracker Music Fest will be held Friday, July 29 and Saturday, July 30 at South Wayne Area Community Park, South Wayne.

The festival kicks off with a steak fry at 6 p.m. Friday, followed by a variety show at 7 p.m., the Country Twist Band at 8:30 p.m., and a DJ at 12:30 a.m. Friday's activities also include a bean bag tournament, a men's slowpitch tournament and a co-ed volleyball tournament.

Saturday begins with a 2K/5K walk/run. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the walk/run beginning at 9:30 a.m. Kid's ballgames, men's slowpitch and co-ed volleyball will continue throughout the day on Saturday as well.

New to the event this year is a euchre tournament, beginning at noon Saturday. The Mt. Vernon tug of war teams will compete at 6 p.m. on the festival grounds.

Three bands are featured on Saturday, beginning with The Invaders at 1 p.m., Grand Theft Portal at 5 p.m. and the X51 band at 9 p.m., followed by DJs at 1 a.m.

All entertainment will be held under the new shelter house built recently at the park. Admission is $5 per person, each day, and ages 17 and younger are free.
