MONROE - Green County Cheese Days, New Glarus Brewing Company, Minhas Craft Brewery and the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board are inviting bread bakers to show off their skills by entering the Cheese and Beer Bread Recipe Contest.
Participants may enter recipes into the contest including, loaves, rolls, biscuits, pretzels and muffins.
Recipes must contain a locally made cheese and a locally made beer. Bakers are encouraged to creatively combine the two required ingredients, if necessary. For example, if a soft pretzel recipe contains beer, but not cheese, develop a cheese spread to accompany the pretzels.
Entries must be postmarked by Aug. 13. A $3 entry fee is required. Late entries will be returned.
Ten finalists will be selected and notified by Sept. 3, 2010. Final judging will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, in the Cheese Days Hospitality Tent. Each finalist will have space to set up their cheese and beer bread for display. Participants may include a theme, decorations, table coverings or other materials in their display. Judging criteria includes visual presentation, taste, originality and texture.
The grand prize winner will receive $100, plus a gift basket from the sponsors. The first runner up will receive $50 and various gifts, and the second runner up will receive $25.
All entries must be accompanied by the entry form. Entry forms are available at the Cheese Days Office, or can be downloaded from the Cheese Days website at www.cheesedays.com, or by calling (608) 325-7771.
