Rain, rain stay away - until after Cheese Days

MONROE - Cheese Days Coordinator Noreen Rueckert is hoping the weather forecasts for this weekend's festival are mistaken.

Weather Central, which provides the weather map on Page A6 of The Monroe Times, indicates a chance of showers late Friday and Saturday and a chance of thunderstorms late Sunday. The high is expected to be 68 on Friday, 73 on Saturday and 78 on Sunday.

The National Weather Service has similar predications. According to the NWS Tuesday night, Friday will be mostly sunny with a high near 70 and a 20 percent chance of showers Friday night. Saturday will be partly sunny with a high near 68 and a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms - that chance will increase to 40 percent at night. Sunday will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 71, and a slight chance of showers.

Of course, forecasts can change a lot in a few days.

"We're still a few days away from this weekend. It's still a little early to worry about that," she laughed. "I hope they're wrong."

If there is some rain during the Cheese Days festival, Rueckert doesn't expect it to interfere with planned activities. There are plenty of things to do to keep people busy and out of the rain, she said.

"We have a lot of things going on under tents and inside. I don't think there will be any problems."

Rueckert said it rain interrupts any of the activities, they will resume when the rains ends.

Rueckert said if there are any changes due to the weather, they will be posted on the Cheese Days' Facebook page. The Cheese Days office will also be open throughout the weekend. People can call (608) 325-7771 for any questions about the festival.
