MONROE - Already flooded areas of Green and Lafayette counties face even more flooding, with as much as three inches of rain forecast for today.
The National Weather Service forecast calls for a 90 percent chance of rain today and periods of thunderstorms. There could be up to two inches of rain.
Tonight, there is an 80 percent chance of rain with up to one inch possible.
The added rain will make things difficult for people along the Sugar and Pecatonica rivers near Brodhead and Martintown.
At 4:15 a.m. today, the Sugar River near Brodhead was more than two feet above flood stage. There was widespread agricultural and lowland flooding.
The Pecatonica River at Martintown was more than four feet above flood stage by this morning. Some of the homes in Martintown were affected by the high water. Farm fields and lowland areas also were affected.
Last weekend's heavy rain caused several roads in the area to close because of flooding.
County MM in Green County is impassible, and there still is some water over the road on County E north of Brodhead, according to the Green County Highway Department.
Lafayette County Sheriff Department Chief Deputy and Emergency Management Director John Reichling said County D and County K, along with several township roads between Darlington and South Wayne, are covered with water.
Motorists are advised to find alternate routes rather than drive through standing water on the roads.
