MONROE - The Monroe Questers have donated $3,000 to Turner Hall in Monroe to help restore the historic building's roof.

"This year, as a result of generous bequests from several former members, including Ruth Amstutz and Dorothy Meythaler, we have the funding to contribute directly from our local chapter funds and have chosen to support Turner Hall with a donation of $3,000 to be used in their current restoration of the roof of the historic building," the Questers said in a release.

The Turner Hall building, a Swiss Emmental-style chalet, is listed on both the National and State Registers of Historic Places. Its authentic Old World interior houses many paintings and Swiss artifacts.

Questers is an international organization which encourages the appreciation of antiques and restoration and preservation of historical landmarks. Monroe's Questers group is the Swiss Attic Fanciers, which has been in existence for many years. The group has contributed, through state and international grants, to many local organizations, including the Green County Historical Society and Monre Arts Center, and in cooperation with a former chapter of Questers, Trails and Treasures, helped restore the clock tower on the Green County Courthouse.

Martha Etter and Kay Krebs are spearheading the fund drive to replace Turner Hall's 40-year-old roof. Work on the roof began this week.

Donations to Turner Hall are tax-deductible.
