MONROE - The vibrant sound of the Ancora String Quartet (ASQ) will resonate throughout the Monroe Arts Center's concert hall at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, for the first Sunday Afternoon Concert this season. This chamber ensemble of the Madison area's finest young musicians is making a name for itself with dynamic performances of a repertoire that ranges from Mozart to the Indigo Girls.
The musicians of the quartet, Leanne Kelso League (violin), Robin Ryan (violin), Marika Fischer Hoyt (viola), and Benjamin Whitcomb (cello), earned degrees from leading music schools including the New England Conservatory, Eastman School of Music, Indiana University and the University of Texas-Austin. The four players have well-established individual musical careers as soloists, chamber musicians and orchestral players. They perform frequently in Madison, and appear regularly in such ensembles as the Madison Symphony Orchestra, the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, the Oakwood Chamber Players, the Madison Bach Musicians, and the Wisconsin Baroque Ensemble. They have attended numerous chamber music festivals and have performed across the United States and Europe.
This concert is free to Monroe Arts Center members. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door or by calling (608) 325-5700. There will be a reception immediately following the performance downstairs in the Frehner Gallery. The Sunday Afternoon Concert series is supported by Season Corporate Underwriter, The Swiss Colony; Season Media Underwriters, Monroe Publishing and Big Radio; and the Gunderson Stiles Fund for Classical Music.
