At approximately 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2, a transformer on Monroe’s west side blew, knocking power out to businesses and homes. Alliant Energy estimated electricity would be restored by about 6 p.m.

The transformer, located on West 7th Street near Farm & Fleet and Fuzzy’s Audio and Video, knocked out power as far away as Walmart.
