Postal Service offering tips to make holiday shipping easier

MONROE - The U.S. Postal Service is offering shipping tips to help customers make sure their holiday gifts reach their destination in time for the holidays.

The following tips will help customers when shipping packages:

• There are special conditions and restrictions when mailing toys and other electronic devices that contain batteries. Consult the local post office for more information about shipping batteries domestically or internationally.

• Place a card inside the package that contains both the delivery and return addresses. This ensures the safe return of an item that could not be delivered because the mailing label was damaged or had fallen off.

• Include both the "to" and "from" information on packages and only on one side.

• Always use a return address.

• Select a box that is strong enough to protect the contents inside.

• Avoid reusing mailing boxes as they can be weakened during the shipping process.

• Stuff glass, fragile and hollow items with newspaper or packing material to avoid damage.

• When mailing framed photographs, take the glass out of the frame and wrap it separately.

To save time, customers can also order free boxes online by visiting the postal store at www.usps.com/shop by Monday, Dec. 3 and use free package pickup.
