MONROE — Police are investigating another burglary of Fuzzy’s Audio & Video, almost three years to the day after the business was burglarized in 2016.

This burglary happened in the early morning hours of Monday, Dec. 23, according to a still shot taken from the store’s video surveillance. The image is timestamped 4:54 a.m. and shows three people in hooded sweatshirts or jackets entering the office at the business, 141 W. 7th St.

“We would call this a smash-and-grab,” said Monroe Chief of Police Fred Kelley. “They force their way in and they’re in there a very, very short period of time.”

This type of quick, unsophisticated burglary has become more frequent in the region, Kelley said.

It’s also similar to the burglary of Fuzzy’s on Dec. 20, 2016. In that case, three burglars shattered the front door and spent all of 40 seconds inside the store before leaving empty-handed. Two Illinois men have since been convicted and are spending time behind bars for the burglary. The third accomplice was allegedly a juvenile.

During the more recent burglary, the suspects pried open a door to break in, Kelley said. Their getaway vehicle is believed to be a sedan.

“We think phones have been taken, but we don’t have an exact count,” he said.

Police are encouraging anyone with knowledge of the burglary to call the department at 608-329-2401 or submit a tip anonymously to Green County Crimestoppers online at greencountycrimestoppers.com, by phone at 800-I-C-CRIME or via the P3 Tips mobile app.
