DARLINGTON - The Darlington Police Department announced this week it is hosting the 16th Annual Police Brat Feed and Ball Game on Thursday, Aug. 1.
The event will be held at Riverside Park, behind the Piggly Wiggly. Officers will be serving up brats, hot dogs and beverages beginning at 5 p.m. until sold out.
At 7 p.m., "The Enforcers" vs. "The Community All-Stars" take the field for an entertaining game of softball. Law enforcement officers from the local, county and state level will play against local business representatives and community members.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Darlington Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program, which has a goal of heightening the relationship youth have with police and of reducing the use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs and violent behavior among young people.
The Darlington D.A.R.E. program is taught to first- and third-graders at Holy Rosary Catholic School and to fifth graders at the Darlington Elementary-Middle School. Follow-up presentations are given in the seventh and eighth grades.
D.A.R.E. programming is also provided to juniors and seniors at Darlington High School, with scholarships awarded to graduating seniors.
