MONROE - Sam Laws has worked at Stop-N-Go in Monroe for more than two years. He's the store's assistant manager.
Laws said the best part of his job is the customers.
"I get to know them. I know half of them by their first names," he said.
He tries to brighten the day for people who come in to buy gas or merchandise at the store.
"That's my goal," he smiled.
In a letter sent to the Stop-N-Go office in Madison last year, one customer from Dubuque, Iowa complimented Laws and thanked him for helping her.
"I absentmindedly left my credit card on the counter and was unaware of it until the next day," she wrote. "By the time I realized the problem he had already called the credit card company and destroyed the card.
"It's people like Sam that make a difference in the lives of others."
