MONROE - To Anna Schramke, Green County is home. Although she's worked in a few states, she followed her instincts 10 years ago when she accepted the position as the director of Green County Development Corporation.
Today she wouldn't have it any other way.
Although economic development wasn't exactly a career choice at the time, her background in geography and economics led her to an internship toward economic planning. Eventually, she went into economic development, a career path that's fits her perfectly.
"By myself I could never do any of this," Schramke said of all that's been accomplished over the years. "It's all about people working together - all I'm trying to do is bring those people together."
Schramke wears many hats. She facilitates business growth, identifies resources, links people together and helps new and existing businesses with challenges they may face.
Building community relationships and using her knowledge with economic development are ways she spreads herself throughout Green County to serve as an intermediary between businesses and communities.
One of the biggest accomplishments Schramke has seen from start to finish has been the Badger State Ethanol Plant in Monroe. Working with state agencies and now watching the facility grow has given her a sense of accomplishment - for herself as well as Monroe and Green County.
"It's a great example of what can happen when a community is ready to pull out all the stops for a project," Schramke said. "It's the cutting edge of technology."
