Parks Dept. accepting orders for tree planting

MONROE - The City of Monroe Parks Department is accepting orders for fall terrace tree planting through Oct. 7.

Planting will begin Oct. 24.

Two species are available:

• The Regal Prince Oak is a vigorous oak hybrid cross between the Upright English Oak and Swamp White Oak. The foliage is green with silvery undersides. It is tolerant of a wide range of soil types, wet and dry. It grows to about 50-feet tall and 20- to 25-feet wide. The cost is $130.

• The Kentucky Coffee Tree is a large open tree with character. It has large, compound leaves that are bluish-green in summer and yellow in fall. Coarse and picturesque in the winter, it prefers deep moist soil. Its seed pods are 6 inches long on female trees. It grows to 50- to 60-feet tall and 40-feet wide. The cost is $145.
