MONROE - The Monroe Parks and Recreation summer dance class begins Thursday and will run Thursdays until Aug. 20.
Classes are held at the Community Center with cost of $40 for residents and $50 for non-residents. Ballet 1 for 3- and 4-year-olds is full. There are still openings for Ballet 2 for 5- through 7-year-olds at 6:35 to 7:05 p.m. and Pop Class at 7:10 to 7:40 p.m.
Session 2 of tennis lessons starts July 20 and will run Monday through Thursday for two weeks through July 30. These lessons will be held at Recreation Park and cost $25 for residents and $35 for non-residents. The class for participants entering first through third grades will be from 8 to 8:55 a.m. and the one for children entering fourth through seventh grade will be from 9 to 9:55 a.m.
Tennis leagues begin July 20 and will run Monday through Thursday for two weeks through July 30. Lessons will be held at Recreation Park for eighth- through 12th-grade girls from 10 to 10:55 a.m. and eighth- through 12th-grade boys from 11 to 11:55 a.m. Cost is $25 for residents and $35 for non-residents.
The first session of July adventure club will run July 6 through July 17 and the second session July 20 through July 31 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m. at Recreation Park North Shelter. The cost of each session is $35 for residents and $45 for non-residents for boys and girls ages 6 through 10.
New on Saturdays only is boot camp running July 11 through Oct. 3. The exercise class is held on Saturday mornings 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. at the Behring Senior Center for participants 18 years or older. The cost is $23 for residents and $33 for non-residents.
July tot lot for children 3 through 5 year old is held at Twining South shelter. Superhero themes include: You are my Hero, Superheroes All Around, I'm a Hero Too, and It's a Bird-It's A Plane. Disney Theme include: Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Big Hero 6 and Frozen. The last theme, "Meet the Cheesemakers," includes: fantastic football, jersey day, soccer galore and cheerleading. Classes will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays July 13 through July 30. Cost is $70 for residents and $80 for non-residents.
Preschool aqua swim lessons for 3- through 5-year-olds will be held from noon to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday July 13 through July 23 for Skippers 1. Skippers 2 will be held from noon to 12:30 p.m. July 27 through Aug. 6. The cost is $30 for residents and $40 for non-residents.
The "Under the Sea" event will be from 1 to 4 p.m. July 16 at the pool. Games and prizes for all.
The pool will be closed for Dr. Stiles Swim Meet, held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The raindate is Sunday.
Season pool passes are marked down to half price Monday. A family pass will be $47.50 for residents and $55 non-residents and individual passes are $25 for residents and $32.50 for non-residents.
Movie at the Park, sponsored by Crossroads Community Church, will be at 8:30 p.m. July 17 at Twining Park Bandshell with a showing of "Paddington." The event is free to be public. Those who attend should bring their own lawn chairs and blankets. In the event of rain, the movie will be shown at the church.
