MONROE - The Public Safety Committee will consider quotes for a parking survey at its meeting June 17 and may meet jointly with the Finance and Taxation Committee, according to Phil Rath, city administrator.
A mayoral ad hoc parking ramp committee requested the survey to help determine the future parking needs of the city - and the need for its decaying downtown parking ramp. Members of the ad hoc committee chose two of three submitted quotes.
The quotes are two to four times higher than the $8,000 to $12,000 the ad hoc committee was expecting.
Carl Walker, Inc., a structural engineering firm, bid $45,000 to $55,000. Walker Parking Consultants/ Engineers, Inc., a parking consulting and parking design firm, bid $20,000 to $30,000. Both companies have offices in Chicago.
A third company indicated a "fly-over" was part of its survey process, which, Rath said, ad hoc members didn't think would add value to the final survey report.
No local companies submitted quotes.
