MONROE - A mayoral committee to determine the future of Monroe's downtown parking ramp will get firm ground under its feet with two studies - a parking study and a financial options review.
Mayor Bill Ross said the 14 members, who met for the first time Thursday, March 21, had a variety of ideas about what should be done, based on a wide range of understanding about the needs of Monroe's central business district. The two sets of updated information will get everyone on the same page, he added.
Al Gerber, supervisor for the city's Engineering Department, will research firms that do parking studies, and Phil Rath, city administrator, undertook the task of bringing in a speaker to discuss the city's financing options, other than bonding. The cost to replace the facility is estimated at $4 to $6 million.
Ross encouraged citizens to contact him with their comments and suggests.
The ad hoc committee set its next meeting for Thursday, April 11 at the city hall. The meeting is open to the public.
