MONROE - Mayor Bill Ross presented the 2015 Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Proclamation by the City of Monroe on Oct. 29 to Dave Mosher of Mosher and Associates Insurance.

November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.

The proclamation designated today (Nov. 13) as "World Pancreatic Cancer Day," and people are being encouraged to wear purple on that day. The proclamation also states that the good health and well-being of the residents of Monroe are enhanced as a direct result of increased awareness. An estimated 48,960 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the United States this year.

In 2008, Mosher became aware of this leading cancer killer when cancer affected his office. An associate was a cancer survivor and around the same time, another friend underwent Whipple surgery for potential pancreatic cancer. Mosher has since become a major sponsor for the local Walk for Awareness that takes place the second Saturday in October.
