MONROE - Two local companies are planning to expand in the North Business and Industrial Park.
Regez Cheese and Paper Supply Company, Inc., now located on Coplien Road in Monroe, and Monroe Powersports, Inc., already located in the industrial park, came before the city's plan commission Wednesday with plans to expand.
"They aren't new businesses to the city, but expansions are a good sign (of growth) for Monroe," said Chuck Koch, a member of the commission.
Koch said expansions can sometimes attract new business to the city.
The Regez company presented site plans and building plans for a 3.1-acre lot in the park.
According to information from Pam Christopher, Monroe Chamber of Commerce and Industry director, the new facility includes an 8,000-square-foot steel warehouse, plus 4,000-square-foot shop and 1,200-square-foot office.
Construction is expected to cost $300,000, before the heating, air conditioning and plumbing costs are added.
A certified survey map is to be completed in time for the commission to review and approve next month.
Monroe Powersports also brought its design, site plan and building plans for additional buildings on its lot in the park.
The presentation was made as a courtesy but not required, because the lot is located in a general business district zone and is an expansion.
Christopher said the company is adding a 3,200 square-foot heated building and 6,000 square feet of cold storage on the 3-acre property.
Monroe Powersports' currently facility is 8,000 square feet.
Monroe offers lots for $1 per acre in the North Business and Industrial Park with the condition that new construct on the site be valued at $100,000 per acre.
