Ordinance bans residents from leaving debris, refuse in street

MONROE - Residents of the City of Monroe are reminded that it is against city ordinance to deposit refuse or debris, which includes grass clippings, leaves, dirt and limbs, into the street.

When it rains, the debris is washed into the storm inlets causing back-ups or running into streams. Leaf collection in the fall is the only time leaves are permitted to be placed in the gutter.

Grass should be placed in a clear bag with an attached yard waste sticker; the bag will be picked up on regular refuse collection day or bags can be brought to the City of Monroe Storm Water Utility and Street Department for free yard waste drop-off on schedule days.

Schedule days are:

• From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 9 and 30, May 7 and 28, June 4 and 25, July 9 and 30, Aug. 6 and 27, Sept. 3 and 24, and Oct. 1 and 22.

• From 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 19, May 17, June 14, July 19, Aug. 16, Sept. 13 and Oct. 11.
