Off and on watches for local rivers

Its now predicted to crest at only 4.6 feet. Forecasts for the area call for periods of snow after noon on Thursday with accumulations of 2 to 4 inches.
MONROE - The flood watch for the Sugar River is back on, for a short time.

The National Weather Service this morning issued a flood watch for the Sugar River at Brodhead through Thursday afternoon. A previous flood watch for the river had been canceled Tuesday.

Flood stage on the Sugar River at Brodhead is 5 feet. It was at 3.41 feet Tuesday morning but had risen to 4.6 feet by 9 a.m. today. The National Weather Service said minor flooding is possible.

The National Weather Service said flood stage could be reached by after midnight Thursday.

The flood watch for the Pecatonica River at Martintown has been canceled.

During consistent rain Tuesday, the National Weather Service predicted the river would go above the flood stage of 13.5 feet around 6 a.m. Thursday and crest at 14.6 feet around 6 a.m. Friday.

As of 4 a.m. today, the river was at 10.89 feet, about 1.5 feet higher than the same time yesterday. But the river now is expected to crest at only 12.7 feet around 6 a.m. Friday.

A flood advisory is still in effect for the Pecatonica River at Freeport until further notice.

Forecasts for the area call for periods of snow Thursday afternoon with accumulations of 2 to 4 inches.
