Novak wins GOP nod

MONROE - Todd Novak of Dodgeville captured a majority of Green County votes on Tuesday in the 51st Assembly Republican primary, which pitted four candidates against each other for a place on the November ballot, and helped him to the November general election against Democrat Dick Cates of Spring Green and Libertarian Adam Laufenberg of Highland.

Novak took 350 of the 815 Green County Republican votes, or 42.9 percent. He was rivaled only by Monroe native, Tyler Schultz, who came in close behind with 327 votes, or 40.1 percent.

Dennis B. Polivka, Spring Green, was Green County's third favorite, with 12.4 percent, and Ken Rhino Rynes of Richland got 4.4 percent.

In Lafayette County, Novak received 1,071 votes, or 50 percent of the votes cast, leaving Schultz with 428 votes (21.1 percent) and Dennis Polivka with 410 votes (20.2 percent). Rynes came in with 161 votes, or 8 percent.

Overall, in the 51st Assembly District, Novak received 2,260 votes, or 48.4 percent of the vote. Polivka received 916 votes for 19.6 percent; Schultz received 859 votes for 18.4 percent; and Rynes 637 votes for 13.6 percent.
