Notorious 18/151 intersection claims second life in 3 weeks
Fatal accident

TOWN OF BRIGHAM — A 70-year-old Black Earth man died in a crash on U.S. 18/151 at the same intersection of a fatal crash three weeks ago.

David Glessing was pronounced dead by the Iowa County coroner at the scene of the crash at 18/151 and Iowa County K east of Barneveld Friday around 12:45 p.m.

According to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office, a tractor-trailer driven by Tishi Chomphell, 45, Stockton, Calif., was going west on 18/151 when Glessing’s pickup truck, which was going south on K, didn’t stop at the stop sign at K and 18/151.

Sheriff Michael Peterson said that based on estimated speeds, Glessing was probably attempting to cross 18/151 when the crash occurred.

Barneveld-Brigham, Verona, Mount Horeb, Ridgeway, Hollandale and Dodgeville Fire, Barneveld and Dodgeville EMS, Barneveld Police, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, the Wisconsin State Patrol, Iowa County Technical Rescue, and the Iowa County Highway Department assisted the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office and the State Patrol are investigating.

Glessing is Iowa County’s fifth traffic fatality of this year and second at the 18/151/K intersection. Luke MacLean, 47, Belleville, died when his pickup truck was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer at that intersection April 18.

Peterson said the crash is “another heartbreaking reminder of how dangerously outdated and hazardous the U.S. 18/151 corridor has become.”
