EVANSVILLE — A two-vehicle crash on icy roads in Rock County on Sunday afternoon left a 4-year-old child with life-threatening injuries and resulted in the arrest of one driver. The Rock County Sheriff’s Office and Evansville Police Department responded to the collision at approximately 4:47 p.m. Feb. 16 on North U.S. 14 and West Elmer Road in the Town of Union.
According to Rock County Sheriff’s Office authorities, a 21-year-old woman from Brooklyn was driving southbound on U.S. 14 when she lost control of her vehicle on the icy road surface. Her vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with a northbound vehicle driven by a 27-year-old man from Stoughton. The woman and a 4-year-old child in her vehicle, who was not properly restrained, were transported to local hospitals. The child sustained life-threatening injuries, while the woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The male driver was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
The southbound driver, Annalyse Schneeberger-Barbieur, was arrested and tentatively faces charges including 2nd Degree Reckless Endangerment Causing Great Bodily Harm, Child Neglect Causing Great Bodily Harm, and Knowingly Operate While Suspended Causing Great Bodily Harm. The Wisconsin State Patrol assisted in reconstructing the crash scene.
Rock County authorities remind the public that charges are accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
