MONROE - A Monroe teen pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Green County Circuit Court, where he is charged with multiple felony counts for allegedly downloading digital images of children engaged in sexual acts, including video depicting a 3-year-old girl.
Scott T. Creed, 17, faces seven counts of possessing child pornography, a Class I felony.
Creed appeared with his attorney, Michael Schmidt, before Circuit Judge Thomas J. Vale.
According to the criminal complaint, the investigation started last January through an authorized, undercover operation conducted by the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation and the department's Internet Crimes Against Children Unit.
The investigation, the complaint alleges, identified an online computer in Wisconsin offering to participate in distribution of known child pornography, and traced its Internet Protocol (IP) address to a residence in the 1700 block of 15th Street. State investigators then obtained a search warrant in Dane County Circuit Court, allowing them to search the residence, and a Monroe Police Department detective assisted in executing the search on May 6.
Creed stated in the complaint that he lives every other week with each of his parents - one week with his father, at the residence on 15th Street, and another at his mother and stepfather's home, in the 1200 block of 16th Street.
After receiving consent from Creed's mother, agents searched computers and digital media at her residence as well. As a result, 11 different files allegedly containing child pornography were recovered and previewed from drives on computers from both residences. Creed, the complaint alleges, later admitted to investigators that he used FrostWire, a peer-to-peer file sharing program, while online at both locations.
He was charged with the seven counts on May 10, and appeared the same day. He was given a signature bond of $5,000. Conditions of his bond also were reaffirmed Tuesday, including that Creed resides with a parent or parents, have no Internet access, and no unsupervised use of a computer.
A status conference on the case is set for 10 a.m. Aug. 3.
