MONROE - A Belleville man had a not-guilty plea entered on his behalf for multiple felony charges of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.
Matthew G. Tweed, 35, is charged with four Class C felony counts of second-degree sexual assault of a child and three Class D felony counts of child enticement to sexual acts.
Tweed chose to waive his right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday in Green County Circuit Court, negating the need for Assistant District Attorney Jeffrey Kohl to bring forth witnesses to argue there was probable cause to charge Tweed with the felonies.
A pretrial conference is scheduled for March 3.
Court records show Tweed allegedly met the victim as she was running along the Badger State Trail in August. The victim told police she allowed Tweed to run with her and he allegedly stopped to kiss and touch her. The victim alleged there were four separate occasions of sexual contact between she and Tweed, each time on the trail, with the most recent alleged assault in September.
Tweed said all contact was consensual.
Tweed remains free on bond with conditions that he have no contact with any person under the age of 18, the victim or her residence, and he is allowed to have contact with his children if his wife or the maternal grandparents are supervising.
